Thread count alone is not
enough to tell you the quality and feel of a sheet. You must look at the type of fabric combined
with the thread count.
For example, an ultra-fine, long-staple cotton yarn, such as
Egyptian and Supima cotton, can be woven to a high thread count and still feel soft and fluid,
while a shorter staple cotton yarn may start to feel stiff at a high thread count. That said, a
general rule of thumb is: the higher the thread count, the more densely woven the sheet.
Under 300 thread count

Medium weight; smooth
600 or higher thread count
