What is Matelasse? A favorite of decorators, this soft bed covering has raised relief patterns for beautiful dimension.
Matelasse (pronounced "mat-luh-say") is the French word for "padded." It is created using a special double cloth weaving process to achieve a very soft, decorative textured effect. Commonly made of 100% cotton, matelasse designs range from simple and graphic to fancy floral motifs or dramatic damasks. Matelasse is beautiful on its own or as a layering piece for your bedroom. It can be very elegant when mixed with a formal ensemble or casual when combined with a simple patterned sheet.
