Rated 5 out of 5 by Hathaway Review is for king bedspread, not sham
The bedspread is perfect and beautiful, great size for our high bed with the bedskirt we had already. The only caveat is that the weave is somewhat loose and can pull, but just be careful with it.
I'm pleased to have found a bedspread made well and in the USA. For many years most linens have been imported from China and Portugal, and many are not washable as this Bates one is.

Love this bedspread. Been looking for along time for a cream vintage antique look. It is medium weight and lays nicely along the bottom.

Rated 4 out of 5 beutiful heirloom quality
It's a gorgeous coverlet. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because it was difficult to really see online how the colors were matching up. I went directly to Bates online to see their choices, and what was shown as their sample images was said to be "white" but as it turns out when I ordered mine in white, it doesn't look like the one I thought was white, turns out it was probably antique or linen. Hard to say. That was frustrating, but I'm keeping it white anyway. In white it's hard to see the intricate pattern with the stark tone of the white on white, that's what I liked about this coverlet, but it's difficult to see how beautiful it is without more contrast.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Grampa Great American made bedspread.
First off, no problem on which side goes up. Right side up is easy. I had a bit of a problem when I received the Antique color Abigail Adams Bedspread. Oops, the Antique looked like beige or light tan, not the off white or ivory that I had expected. I gave customer service a call, and asked to get the same bedspread in white, and credit me for a return. They said no problem, and I received the white color bedspread in five days. Thanks a lot. I am color blind, so I have issues sometimes.

The previous reviewer stated that she had to turn the maelasse bedspread over several times before she could tell which side was up. That's the mark of a quality matelasse! They are so finely and intricately woven that it's often quite difficult to tell which side faces out. This person must not have much experience with fine quality bedding.

I had to flip this over two or three times to figure out which side was the front and which side was the back...very poor excuse for matelasse. Very disappointed given the price. Sent it back. The only positive was that it shipped very quickly.
